BE – Information Science and Engineering

Course Overview

What is Information Science?
Information Science is an inter-disciplinary field focused on cognitive science, commerce, communication and management. An IS major needs to be aware of what information technology can contribute to an organization and how to bring that solution to fruition. The strength of an IS major lies in his/her ability to apply the knowledge of information systems and technology to help organizations compete more successfully in the marketplace or to streamline current operations.
What does an IS professional do in the real world?
IS professionals often call upon their business skills in working with managers and users to specify technology needs that benefit the organization. In addition, they write programs to codify that technology and later manage it. As such, the IS professional might develop code for business transaction processing systems, client/server systems or end-user support systems; they might implement such systems in languages as COBOL, C++, Visual Basic or JAVA. IS graduates also design and administer databases and data warehouses, analyze and implement enterprise-wide solutions to information problems and manage telecommunications efforts. Some IS graduates implement and manage corporate-wide intranets. Finally, IS graduates can also provide project management skills, technical writing or training by applying their knowledge of information technology and business processes. Information Analysts, Business Data Analysts, Software Engineers, IT Analysts are just a few examples of the many roles that graduates of Information Science can take up.

Course Overview
The field of Electronics and Communications Engineering has its foundations in three major technical areas: Mathematics: Information, Networks and Systems, Physics: Circuits, Semiconductor Devices & Optical Systems, and Computers: Microprocessors and Computing devices.
As part of the engineering curriculum, you will study Engineering Mathematics, Elements of Mechanical Engineering, CAED, Professional Ethics, and programming concepts during the First Year foundational courses. In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, the focus will be on core specialized subjects such as Electronic circuits, both Analog & Digital, Signal processing, Communications, VLSI and Embedded systems, etc. followed by project work and technical seminars.
Electronics and Communications engineers are very much in demand throughout industry. BE – Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Course Overview

What is Electrical & Electronics Engineering?
Electrical and Electronics typically deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. The origins of this field lie in the latter half of the 19th century when the electric telegraph was first commercialized, the telephone was invented and electric power distribution came into use.
As such, Electrical and Electronic Engineering deals with many of the real problems facing our world today such as electric power transmission and electrical machines. This field pervades every aspect of handling information, from sensing and acquisition, through communications, networking, switching, processing, and storage.
What is the difference between Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering?
Electrical engineers are usually concerned with using electricity to transmit electric power, while electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to process information through electronic systems such as computers, communication systems, integrated circuits and radar. However, the sub disciplines can and often do overlap. For example, as power electronics has developed to what it is today, in studying its behavior we find that large electrical grids are often under the control of digital computers and electronics.
What will I study in the course?
As a student in the course, you will study the various sub-fields of the discipline including electronics, digital computers, power engineering, telecommunications, control systems, RF engineering, and Signal Processing. Course coverage can be broadly classified as Power systems, Electronics, Programming, Circuits and Systems, Measurement and Instrumentation and Machines & Drives.
Students will get extensive exposure during their project and seminar to the following areas: software simulation of relays (using C#, .Net), RF Planning of CDMA networks, installation of 66 KV substation, design of building automation systems, energy auditing and saving, power control circuit design, Microcontroller programming, redesign of electronic systems for ROHS compliance, measurement using spectrum analyzer and partial discharge measurement for HV cable terminations.
Besides in-classroom learning, what other opportunities do I have to learn?
Our students have many opportunities to go on industrial visits, shadow employers at the workplace, and undergo summer training at premier companies in the electrical industry such as HAL and ABB (India) Ltd. (for Power and Automation Technologies).

BE – Mechanical Engineering
Course Overview

Who should study Mechanical Engineering?
If you have an interest in manufacturing, if you love doing work on engines, or if you have an aptitude for drawing then Mechanical Engineering might be your calling. In this field, you will have ample opportunity to demonstrate your skills in the lab. You will learn the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, and be exposed to diverse areas such as mechatronics, aeronautical, MEMS, automobile, etc.
What will I study in the course?
As a student of mechanical engineering, you will find yourself deep-diving into this core technical field that deals with various subjects broadly classified into the design, thermal and manufacturing streams. Students will learn CAED / CAM, knowledge of which is essential nowadays for operating conventional CNC (computer-aided numerically-controlled) machines. With an understanding of CAEM, students will be able to work on these machines. As early as the first year, students will get a real taste for the basics of mechanical engineering as they delve into 2-D drafting.

Course Structure
The course is broadly classified into three major domains: Thermal, Manufacturing and Design. The duration of the programme is eight semesters. The course deals with subjects in manufacturing and FEM applicable for all manufacturing industry, casting industry, automobile industry and aerospace applications, and offers training in modeling and finite element analysis software for thermal and fluid dynamics problems. Students will also be exposed to CFX software and CNC machining simulations in addition to the manufacture and design of components.

As civil engineers, we orchestrate the rise of marvelous concrete monuments and structures from mere sketches. We create tangible physical structures such as roads, dams, and even towering skyscrapers that dot the skyline of the 21st century modern cities. We address issues of sustainability by designing basic components of the built environment; energy, water supply and waste treatment. This discipline spans over five areas of specialization namely Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering.
